Edward Hopper

Hopper's Biography

Edward Hopper was born on the twenty second of july in 1882 and died on the fifteen of may1967. He was a américan citizen and he studied at The New York school of Art. Edward Hopper was a realist painter and a american printmaker. He was a representative of naturalism and of the american scene, because he painted the daily life. At the beginning of his career, he represented the parisian scenes before to paint american landscapes.

From 1915 to 1926, he painted his first printmakers. [...] 

In 1920, he did his first exhibitions of oil on canvas.

In 1923, he began the aquarella and he married with Joséphine Verstille Nivison.

The Hopper's influence on the cinema

Alfred Hitchcock reconstitued "house by the railroad" for Psychose and he thought to "office at night" for Marnie.

George Stevens, Terrence Malick and Sam mendes inspired too the Hopper's painting.

Nighthawks

This painting tells the history of a man and a woman. There names are John and Mary. They are spies and they are waiting for someone in a bar about confidential documents that someone has to give them. The phone rings, the person gives them an appointment at midnight near at the railway station. The woman asks the barman to call a taxi, five minutes later, John and Mary are getting in the cab. They arrive near the railway station, they're getting inside and find a dead person with the phone in his hand. The confidential documents are nowhere to be found. John and Mary continued their investigation to search confidential documents. John received a phone call from strange person who give them an appointment near of a building in ruin. When they arrived at the appointment, they approached and saw the confidential documents in a lift. They rushed inside and all of a sudden, the doors closed: They were took in the trap...Fortunately, John owned in his hidden pocket, a suiss knife and in less than a minute, he unjamed the door. They were free again ready to continue the adventure and catch the thief.
